Selenity's The Act of Animations

A "doujinshi" that has long puzzled Sailor Moon fans is Selenity’s The Act of Animations. It comes up on Ebay from time to time, with a really expensive price tag attached. It is a book that was published by the actual animators of Sailor Moon, and contain real sketches that was used for the anime series. Because of this, many have wondered why this book is categorized as a doujinshi. Why isn’t this book an official Sailor Moon item…?

Rare Seiya & Usagi Sketch

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

I stumbled across this hella cute sketch of Seiya Kou and Tsukino Usagi while flipping through an ancient issue of Animage magazine! I had never seen this sketch before, but knew immediately that the image was no fan art. Animage featured an 18 page tribute to Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon, titled “Sayonara Sailor Moon,” because the long-running anime was officially ending that month. To express her personal gratitude for the series, one of the show’s key animators and character designers Tamegai Katsumi, submitted this sketch into the magazine.

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!!

I bet many of you are partying it up! (Or eating a lot of food, like me!) A large population of Sailor Moon fans are Chinese, and this is an insanely huge holiday. The makers of Sailor Moon did not fail to notice this, and manufactured an item just for the Chinese New Year!

Some of you are thinking, “Whaaaat? Really?” Its no surprise! In Japan, there are Sailor Moon Christmas trees. In the United States, there are Sailor Moon Valentine cards. In Korea, there are Sailor Moon Birthday wrapping paper. For the Chinese, there is the Sailor Moon red envelope. And yes, its authentic.

In the Chinese culture, it is important to give away red envelopes during the Lunar New Year. People hand them out to their loved ones, because this red envelope embodies their blessing of love and happiness into a small deliverable package. The fact that a red envelope was manufactured specifically for Chinese fans, is an extremely sweet and enduring gesture from the folks behind Sailor Moon.

Infinity Artbook

Yep, it happened: A Volume Infinity artbook was torn apart for scans. I know that bit of information probably broke someone’s heart, considering that Volume Infinity generally costs (at the very least) a few hundred dollars on Ebay. But in our defense, our copy of Volume Infinity came to us damaged and the pages were falling out. So what better way to do it, than to scan it in and preserve the files…?
